Modern Land Rover Defenders are packed with advanced lighting technology, but one of the more common faults we see is the failure of the Daytime Running Light (DRL) within the headlight assembly.

Many owners notice that one DRL becomes dim, flickers intermittently, or stops working altogether. In most cases, this fault triggers a warning message on the dashboard and can affect the vehicle’s appearance and road safety.

What Causes the DRL Fault?

The DRL unit is integrated into the headlight assembly and is subject to heat, moisture, and electrical load over time. Common causes include:

Internal LED module failure
Water ingress within the headlight
Faulty electronic control circuitry
Wiring or connection issues
Previous poor-quality repairs

Unfortunately, dealerships will often recommend replacing the entire headlight assembly, which can be an expensive repair.
